SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
This January our FFA chapter had been very busy. We worked the concession stand for our Jr high as well as high school basketball games along with the Jr high volleyball games. We are thankful for all of the people who come out and support us at the games.
The chapter would also like to thank all of those who donated to our annual Illinois Association FFA Foundation Drive. We more than surpassed our goal for this year and we have the community members of Windsor and the surrounding cities to thank for that great accomplishment.
On December 14th, Landon Hayward and Ben Elson competed in the Section 16 Job Interview Career Development Event. The purpose of the contest is to put students through real life situations in order prepare them for future job interviews. Students must create resumes, cover letters, interview in front of a panel of three judges, and finish with a follow up letter. Both Landon and Ben competed very well with Ben bringing home a first place finish! Ben will compete in the State Job Interview competition at Western Illinois University on February 11th. Good luck!
On January 20th and 21st two of our members attended the 212 Conference in Collinsville, IL. They had a wonderful time learning leadership and teamwork skills and meeting other FFA members from FFA chapters all over the state. The goal of this conference is to teach young FFA members leadership skills that they can use in their future as an officer in their local FFA chapter. The girls will be sharing what they learned with other members in our chapter so that everyone benefits from the conference.
On January 25th, Sydney Boehm competed in the public speaking Career Development Event in Blue Ridge where she placed 3rd for Creed Speaking. Sydney worked hard in preparing for the competition and preformed very well. Congratulations to her!
As a chapter we are very excited to see our members doing well in competitions. Many students have put in hard work and a lot of long hours in order to be fully prepared for the events. We are also working hard in our community and are currently organizing community service events such as garden clean-up in the spring. If you have any questions regarding our community service activities please contact the Windsor High School at 459-2636.

Parenting: What are Your Children Watching?
My student teacher, Miss Karraker, is beginning a parenting unit on children programming. I do believe TV shows, the ones we used to call cartoons and watch only on Saturday mornings with our little ones, have really changed.
