Dunaway Named National Finalist in Turf Grass Management-Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Brock Joseph Dunaway of Shelbyville FFA Chapter in Illinois was named a national finalist in the Turf Grass Management - Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency award program in July 2011. Four finalists competed to be named the national winner during the 84th National FFA Convention October 19-22 in Indianapolis, IN.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gained hands-on career experience. Turf Grass Management - Entrepreneurship/Placement is one of 47 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state and national levels. In recognition of being a finalist, each of the four finalists will receive a plaque and $500. The national winner of the Turf Grass Management - Entrepreneurship/Placement will receive an additional $500 during a special ceremony at the national FFA convention.

Brock Dunaway of the Shelbyville FFA Chapter in Illinois began his lawn care business at the age of 12 with two lawns. Now with 15 clients, he offers services such as mowing, trimming, yard maintenance, weed control, leaf removal and snow removal. He owns all the necessary machinery and equipment and markets his business through flyers and local newspaper advertisements. Dunaway is supported by his parents Jim and Annette and his FFA advisor Mandy Totten.
