Shelbyville Police Chief Dave Tallman confirmed the city police department investigated a burglary at the business called Jordan’s Place located at 132 Main Street in Shelbyville. That burglary occurred sometime in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 1.
“Subsequently three male juveniles were taken into custody,” said Tallman. “After processing at the Shelby County Detention Center, as is typical with nonviolent juvenile offenders, they were released to their parents with a court date.”
Shelby County State’s Attorney Allan Lolie said all three were charged.
“All three were charged with one count of burglary and a court date of July 27 was set,” said Lolie.
The owner of Jordan’s Place Connie Nacke said the burglary took place between noon and 5 p.m.
Nacke said items stolen were skateboards, wheels for skateboards, all cigarette lighters, game controllers, and money.
“They also took all the cash that was in the form of bills and they took all the Monster’s (energy drinks),” said Nacke.
Nacke said the items stolen would add up to somewhere between $500 to $1,000.
Nacke said she was disappointed because she opened this business for the kids in hopes of keeping them out of trouble. However, she does take heart that it was also the kids who helped solve the case.
“I was kind of shocked, but the team work of the kids is actually how the case was solved,” continued Nacke. “They knew who did it by the shoe prints. Then another kid who knew my daughter saw them walking down the street with the loot.”
