Okaw Valley Music Boosters Hoping to Drum Up Funds for the Band
The Okaw Valley Music Boosters are working to drum up funds for new equipment.
“The Okaw Valley Music Boosters are selling fall blankets and booster magnets to raise funds for our marching competition this fall,” said Kevin Herron, president of the Music Boosters.
Herron said the boosters are selling what is called “stadium” blankets which people use to sit on during chilly evenings at football games.
“We are selling two styles of the stadium blankets,” continued Herron. “They are both 50”x 60” and have nylon backing which makes them rain and weather resistant. We are selling the blankets for $30 each.”
Herron went on to say the blankets come in either blue with the Okaw Valley Timberwolves logo in the corner or red with the SOV logo for the Sullivan/Okaw Valley football team. They are being embroidered by Debbie Robinson of Queen Bee Stitching in Bethany.
“These are very nice stadium blankets and with the nylon side down and the fleece side next to you they will keep you nice and warm during those chilly nights at the football games.”
He said they are selling two types of magnets also, with one representing Okaw Valley with a blue paw with OVT-wolves on them. The other magnet is a red football helmet with SOV printed on them. The magnets are 5”-6” in size and sell for $8 each or 2 for $15 in any combination.
Katy Doty is the choral director for the elementary and intermediate schools at Okaw Valley. She said most of the percussion instruments are getting pretty old.
“We have drum heads that have worn out after many years of use and it is time to replace them,” said Doty. “We also have marching drum harnesses that have been repaired and now the repairs are shot.”
Doty said the cost to replace harnesses is in the neighborhood of $150-$250 each depending on the size. She said the cost of replacing the drum heads will run approximately $500 total.
Herron said the Music Boosters are accepting pre-paid orders at this time and will continue until the first part of August so they will be in for the fall season.
“After that any orders will be promptly processed,” Herron said. “If anyone has any questions or would like to purchase a blanket or magnet they should contact us Kevin or Jane Herron at 756-5515.”
Doty said at one time the marching band was a good size but lately there was a downturn and now the program is in a rebuilding stage. She said the Music Boosters are hoping Okaw Valley and Sullivan parents will help a great cause and show their support for the program.
