SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
A Moweaqua man was charged with two counts of cannabis possession following a deputy’s response to a call at the home Thursday evening.
Colton T. Mitchell appeared before Judge Daniel E. Hartigan in Shelby County Circuit Court Friday morning where probable cause was found for the charges filed.
Mitchell is charged with Unlawful Manufacture of Cannabis and Unlawful Production of Cannabis.
Shelby County State’s Attorney Deborah Riley said that Deputy Cody Reeves responded to a call from a female stating that she was being held at knifepoint by Mitchell. Reeves entered the home and found two male suspects hiding in the bedroom. He also found cannabis plants, oxygen tanks, and paraphernalia.
Reeves obtained a search warrant from Judge Alan Lolie and returned to the home where he found 24 hanging plants, 24 potted plants, and 2400 grams of cannabis, dried and packaged.
Riley noted that Mitchell was currently out on bond for residential burglary and asked that bond be set at $350,000. She added that other charges may be filed.
Defense attorney Allen Bennett asked that bond be set at $50,000 since Mitchell is already out on bond.
Judge Hartigan set the bond at $75,000, telling Riley that she could ask for higher once additional charges are filed.
Mitchell is set for first appearance with counsel on Wednesday, October 31.
