County Board, Officials Begin New Terms

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Newly elected county officials were started their new terms of office after being sworn in Friday and Monday.

Terms of office began December 1 for State’s Attorney Gina Vonderheide, Supervisor of Assessments Diana Wagner, Circuit Clerk Susan Arthur, Coroner Brian Green, Board of Review District 2 Vera Lu Jeffers, and County Clerk Jessica Fox.

Twenty-two County Board members were sworn in Monday morning by retiring Circuit Judge Michael Kiley.

“This is my first act as retired judge,” Kiley said. “I’ve always had a special feeling for the ocunty board. It is the grass roots of our local democracy in action.”

Every 10 years with the redistricting, all 22 seats on county board are up for election.

Through drawing of lots county board members are chosen to serve the following office terms:

4 year-4 year-2 year: District 1, Richard Hayden; District 2, Bruce Cannon; District 3, Glenn “Dick” Clark; District 4, Robert Amling; District 5, Kenneth Barr; District 6, Jim Warren; District 7, Robert Behl; District 8, Gary Gergeni; District 9, Jesse Durbin; District 10, David Cruitt; District 11, Dennis Fisher.

2 year-4 year- 4 year: District 1, Robert Hunter; District 2, Robert Jordan; District 3, John Warner; District 4, Robert Simpson; District 5, Barbara Bennett; District 6, Dale Wetherall, District 7, Donald Strohl; District 8, Joe Sims; District 9, Larry Lenz; District 10, Kay Kearney; District 11, Robin Robertson.

As a result of the Board’s organizational meeting Bruce Cannon was re-elected as chairman and David Cruitt was elected as vice-chairman.

“I’m looking forward to working with Bruce and the board members during the coming year,” said Cruitt.

Cannon said he looks to continue operating with the balanced budget, the county-wide addressing system (GIS), and upgrades to the county.

The new board’s first monthly meeting will be held December 12.
