SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
With deep regrets the County Board accepted the resignation of Shelby County Clerk and Recorder Kathy Lantz.
Lantz submitted her letter of resignation Wednesday at the regular board meeting, citing her desire to spend more time with her children and grandchildren.
“I have mixed emotions about this,” Lantz told the board. “I have enjoyed my job and the people I work with. The board has been wonderful to me.”
Lantz’ resignation is effective December 31. She has recommended that Jessica Fox fill the rest of her term which expires in 2014. The board will take action on her replacement at the November 14 meeting.
Action taken during the 30-minute meeting included the approval to transfer $220,000 from the General Fund to the Capital Fund to retire the general obligation self-insurance bonds.
“This is more of a housekeeping matter,” said finance committee chairman Rob Amling. “This was a recommendation by the auditor.”
The board tabled action on a request by Newwave Communications for extension of the franchise to serve Shelby County until August 2025.
Zoning/EMA administrator Jared Rowcliffe reported that 14 building permits were issued.
He also reported that the county has been awarded the narrow banding grant on behalf of emergency agencies, such as fire departments, dive team, and rescue squad.
The board approved Shelby County Health Department director Steve Melaga to draft a letter of disapproval of the new regulations regarding sewage/septic systems for new building and replacement systems.
Law enforcement committee chairman Kay Kearney reported that the FCC license has been completed for the communication tower.
She also reported that boxes will be placed at the registration area of Shelby Memorial Hospital and the Sheriff’s Department for disposal of old prescription drugs.
Building committee chairman Jim Warren reported that work on the new entrance is “moving along” with work expected to be be complete the middle of November, depending on weather.
He added that the heating systems are being currently installed.

- Wayne Dotson to the Findlay Fire Protection Board
- Sean Creviston to replace Clint Stiner on the Findlay Fire Protection Board
- James Branyan to the Union Drainage District #1 Flat Branch and Assumption Townships
- Stuart Fox, Peter Dove and Julie Elbert to the combined Clarksburg and Shelbyville Townships Drainage District #1
- Curt Corzine to the Combined Drainage District #2, Town of Tower Hill.
