SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
A Windsor man apparently drowned in Lake Mattoon Sunday afternoon.
Dive teams from Shelby County, Coles County, and Edgar County were called to the scene after the Neoga fire department received a call about the missing man. The body was recovered just before 7 p.m.
Jesse Storm, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene by Shelby County coroner Brian Green.
The incident took place at the beach in the Shelby County part of the lake. Those with Storm reported that he apparently tried to retrieve a raft in the water and did not return to shore.
The Shelby County Dive Team located and recovered Storm’s body from the water in the same vicinity where he was last seen, according to Shelby County Sheriff Michael Miller.
Neoga Fire and Rescue, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Coroner, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Arcola Fire and the Red Cross responded to the beach and search for Storm.
An inquiry is pending.
