Sunday Reenactment to Feature Artistic ‘Enhancements’

SHELBYVILLE- In honor of the 145th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, the Shelby County Lincoln Heritage committee will hold an enhanced performance of the historical Lincoln-Thornton Debate, Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m. at the Shelby County Courthouse.

The ‘enhancements’ are supplied by The Shelby Winds and author Dan Guillory.

The Shelby Winds will be performing original compositions on flute, trombone, and trumpet written by Director Gary Kelsey.

The two compositions include The Civil War Medley and The Gettysburg Tribute which will play in the background as Don Jefferies reads the Gettysburg Address.

Decatur author, Dan Guillory will be reading from his book, The Lincoln Poems. The poems written by Guillory, combine his passion for Lincoln history and poetry, and are presented as if they were written by Abraham Lincoln himself. They dramatize the private feelings of Lincoln on such topics as Mary Todd, Anne Rutledge, prairie wildflowers, and frontier towns.

Minimum donation is a Lincoln $5.00 bill.

Following the performances, refreshments will be served in the Shelby County Office of Tourism located just across from the courthouse where patrons will preview the recently completed Lincoln statue and wayside exhibits.
