Okaw Comeback Falls Short

Okaw Valley gave up another big second inning, this time to Argenta on Wednesday, and were never able to catch up, losing 7-5.

Okaw Valley gave up an 8-run second in their loss to Maroa on Monday and couldn’t complete a comeback. Deja vu.

Argenta remained undefeated, as they held off the Timberwolves’ late game push. Okaw out-hit Argenta 8 to 7 in the 2-run loss. Okaw pitchers did give up three more walks and the Bombers put the ball in play more. A-O struck out just twice, while the T’Wolves had 12 Ks at the plate.

After the Argenta rally in the second, the T’Wolves were down 6-1. Okaw then out-scored the Bombers 4-1 in the final three innings. Okaw trimmed the lead to 6-2, 7-3, then 7-5, before their final out.

Olivia Herzog led the T’Wolves, going 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and scoring three of their five runs. Meghan Blakey, who was the star of the previous loss to Maroa, stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Holly Gill and Ariel Rothrock both had a hit.

Sam Inman did not make a splash at the plate, but did come in to relieve Okaw starter Jessica Drake. Inman allowed just one run on five hits and two walks over 4 and a 1/3 innings pitched. She struck out two.

Drake lasted only an inning and a half, being pulled in the midst of the A-O second-inning rally. Drake gave up five runs on just two hits and four walks, with no strikeouts.

Jenna Allen won her third game of the season for A-O. She gave up eight hits and three walks, but also struck out 12 batters.

Okaw Valley (2-2) hosts Edinburg on Saturday at 10 a.m.
