The 1944 confirmation class of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg met May 24, 2009 at St. Paul's. They attended worship service together and also communed together. Pictures were taken after church. The class then went to Ryan's at Effingham for a delicious meal and visiting. Those attending were: Richard Lading of South Carolina, Loyd Rincker (Mary) of Shelbyville, Ruth (Buesking) Wolf (Ken) of Neoga, Paul Juhnke, Dorothy (Doeding) Juhnke, Delbert Stremming (Doris), Ron Ruff (Melba) and Dwight Lading (Melvina) of Strasburg and guests Pastor Steven Becker, Esther, Jonathon and Jason of Strasburg.
The 1948 graduation class of Strasburg High School met at the Alumni Banquet on May 23, 2009. They had a great time visiting and reminiscing. Pictures were taken also. The class enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Martins IGA and Culvers of Effingham. They also enjoyed music by Jim and Linda Morgan. The 1948 classmates attending were: Richard Lading of South Carolina, Carol (Ragan) Jones (Bill) of Lincoln, Ruth (Buesking) Wolf (Ken) of Neoga, Myra (Engel) Ragan (Bob) of Effingham, Loyd Rincker (Mary) of Shelbyville, Loraine (Engel) Bridges (Bob) of Stewardson, Delbert Stremming (Doris), Ron Ruff (Melba) and Dwight Lading (Melvina) of Strasburg.
Sixteen members of St. Paul's Ladies Aid Society celebrated the spring season in the Church social hall with Hostess Carolyn Stremming on May 7, 2009. Attending were: Joy Lenz, Norma Huddleston, Joyce Kull, Neva Buesking, Geneva Buesking, Helen Telgmann, Melba Ruff, Gail Rincker, Donna Pfeiffer, Rose Schlechte, Chris Storm, Carolyn Stremming, Gail Biehler, Esther Becker, Connie Wirth and Lillian Engelbrecht.
Vice President Melba Ruff led the group in a prayer service for National Day of Prayer that Pastor had put together.
President Esther opened the business meeting, welcoming all. Secretary's Minutes and Treasurer's Report for April were read and approved. Twenty five Christian greeting cards were sent to our church family in April. In addition, seven confirmation cards were presented to the 2009 confirmands. Geneva gave each person in the confirmation class a packet of Mustard Seed devotions.
Thank you notes were read from POBLO Int., Jason Becker and Dalton Storm.
It was reported that eighty attended the LWML Zone Joy Shop in April hosted by our society. Everyone was thanked for helping make the evening a success. Nine of our members attended the Blooming Belles night at Holy Cross, Shelbyville, on May 5.
Our June 4 meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and lunch will be enjoyed together afterwards at Niemerg's Steak House in Effingham.
Esther and Carolyn will be delegates from our society to attend the 2009 CID LWML Convention on June 6 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Mission Grant Proposals were handed out to be studied before our next meeting. Our members will select four grants for our delegates to vote for at the convention. Convention Ingathering will be for Helping Hands Homeless Shelter in Springfield. Our group will donate $50.00 to this cause.
A donation of $50.00 was also given for the May 16 fundraiser walk for the Pregnancy Resource Center in Shelby County.
New Committee: May Altar Flowers - Chris Storm.
President Esther thanked May Hostess Carolyn and Muriel Merriman for taking charge of altar flowers in April.
The meeting closed with the Doxology, Lord's Prayer and the Table Prayer. Treats by Carolyn included special cookie flowers which everyone enjoyed. Thank you to Carolyn.
Congratulations to Jesse Brandt a 2007 graduate of Stewardson Strasburg and a 2009 graduate of Lake Land College who will be continuing his baseball career and education at Oakland City University, Oakland City, IN. under the direction of Coach Fletcher. Jesse signed his letter of intent to play for the Mighty Oaks as a catcher and will major in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice. Jesse was one of the three Valedictorians for the class of 2007 at Stewardson Strasburg. Recently he graduated from Lake Land College summa cum laude and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Jesse is a 2009 member of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference All Academic Team and was also named as and Academic All American for 2009.
The will be a hog roast Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Stewardson Trinity Lutheran School Gym. Menu consists of: pork sandwiches, applesauce, baked beans, chips,desserts & drinks. Free will donations are greatly appreciated. Supplemental funds provided by Thrivent Shelby/Moultrie Chapter Thrivent.
The 11th Annual CID Day at the Ballpark will be Saturday, September 19th at 3:10 p.m at Busch Stadium. The St. Louis Cardinals will play the Chicago Cubs. Tickets are $25.00 each. For more information contact Pastor Michael Mohr.

Seasonal Flu Clinics at Shelby County Health Department
