Inman Era Ends

Okaw Valley graduated one of the area’s best hitters and outfielders in recent memory, Sam Inman. But before Inman left, she led an overachieving Lady Timberwolves squad to the regional championship game and a 17-11 record, carrying with her four of her teammates as all-conference selections.

Inman led the team and the area with a .621 batting average. She led the team with over 50 hits (54) and an on base percentage of .650. Inman had eight doubles, eight triples and eight home runs. She led the team in runs scored (35) and runs batted in (41), hitting .421 with runners in scoring position.

Inman was not only a power hitter with 24 extra-base hits, she had a slugging percentage of over 1000% (1.172). Her on base percentage, plus speed made her the team’s leading base stealer. She led the team in stolen bases (29). No other player on the team had even ten stolen bases.

and all of Okaw's opponents combined had only 13 stolen bases. She also racked up far and away the most total bases (102). The next closest was 50. She also led the team with three sacrifices and carried the smallest strikeout ratio. She only struck out once in every 7.99 at bats.

Inman was also named as 1st Team All-State by the Illinois Coaches Association and was also a unanimous selection to the LOVC 1st Team All-Conference. Inman’s resume reads like an Athlete of the Year and she would have been if not for Paiger Biehler’s 12 records and two state track medals and Megan Stringer’s three state track medals, including a state championship.

Besides Inman’s 1st Team All-LOVC selection, the Lady Timberwolves had four 2nd-Team picks and an honorable mention. Lauren Snearly was a unanimous 2nd team pick for catcher, Olivia Herzog was a unanimous 2nd Team pick for utility player, Sarah Burch was a 2nd team pick as an outfielder, and Jasmine Pierce was 2nd Team as an infielder. Rachel Marshall was Honorable Mention as a pitcher.

Inman led the Okaw hitters in most categories, but Herzog led in one, hitting with runners in scoring position. Herzog hit a team-high .500 with ducks on the pond. She had 18 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .821 (team 2nd). Herzog also was second on the team in batting average (.508) and on base percentage (.552). She struck out only once in every 7.6 at bats (team 2nd).

Snearly was the lead-off hitter and led the team with the most at bats (91). She also was second in hits (34), second in doubles (7) and second in stolen bases (8). Snearly was third in runs scored (23), singles (24), triples (3), batting average (.374), in slugging percentage (.516) and with runners in scoring position (.429).

Burch had 90 at bats and the second most runs scored (25). She had 30 hits, 25 singles (team 2nd) and four triples (team 2nd). She tied Snearly with 14 RBIs. Burch hit.462 with runners in scoring position. She had eight stolen bases, was never caught, and struck out just once in every 6.4 at bats (team 3rd).

Pierce hit .365 (4th) and had an on base percentage of .460 (3rd). She also had 24 singles (3rd). Holly Gill and Meghan Blakey shared a team-leaiding 13 walks. That and nine hits got Balkey a .423 on base percentage , while Gill 17 hits helped her to a .380 OBP.

Charley Phillips was also a valuable player with 21 RBIs (team 2nd), hitting .389 with runner in scoring position and had a .459 slugging percentage with 7 doubles (team 2nd).

The Lady Timberwolves were coached the last few years by Randy Inman, Sam’s father.
