SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Red, white and blue filled the Shelbyville High School gym Friday as Moulton Middle School, with the help of the Kindergarten classes and the High School band, presented its annual Veterans Day Program.
More than 130 veterans were honored and family members who gave their support while their loved one was serving their country were specially recognized.
Performing were the Jr. High and High School bands, the “Shelby Sisters” ensemble, and the Kindergarten and 4-8th grade chorus.
“After last year’s program, a comment was made to me saying that his wife deserved a big thank you for being there for his children and carrying the load while he was gone,” said organizer Angie Temples. “Those words in motion my mission to honor those who supported.”
Those “support people” were recognized with a red carnation and applause from the crowd.
Temples read a letter from Lt. Luke Dunaway, a 2006 graduate of Shelbyville High School and a 2010 graduate of West Point who is currently serving in Afghanistan. The letter was written special for the program.
“On Veterans Day, it is important to recall the sacrifices of those who came before us and insured the security and peaceful living conditions that we as Americans enjoy,” Dunaway wrote.
At Main Street School, students learned more about Veteran’s Day with a special program, flag raising and gun salute by the VFW Honor Guard.
