Central A&M Wins Indoor

Central A&M girls track won the IHSA Class A State Championship last spring, the last time they ran at EIU. On Saturday they went to EIU and won again. This time they won the Charleston Indoor Meet Championship.

A&M was led by senior Taylor Adcock, the reigning Class A 300-meter hurdles champion. On Saturday, she won the 55-meter high hurdles (8.97). She also was 2nd in the 55 meter dash (7.42) and 2nd in the 400 (1:01.58).

The Raiders also had to relays place. The 4x4 relay of Sarah Bailey, Jorgi Sparrgrove, Kaitlyn Corzine and Adcock placed 3rd (4:24.64).

The 4x8 Raider relay of Bailey, Sparrgrove, Corzine and Salena Sloan also placed 3rd in their event (10:48.88).

Fellow Shelby Area track star, Amanda McClain, running for Sullivan-Okaw Valley which placed 4th in the state last spring, also won an event on Saturday. McClain won the 400 meter dash at the Charleston meet (59.54). She was 2nd at State last spring (57.63).

She also was 4th in the state in the long jump last spring (17-5.75).

McClain was 3rd at Charleston on Saturday in the long jump (16-7).

McClain was part of the 4x200 state champion SOV squad last spring. Her re-tooled team, replacing Paige Neuhauser and Mollee Decesaro with Mollee Bowman and Erica Tomczewski, still placed 3rd in the event, Saturday.

Teammate Mollee Bowman also grabbed a 1st place in her event, the triple jump (33-3).

Shelbyville’s best finish came in the 800 run. Morgan Powers placed 7th (2:34.94). Sprinter Keeley Buhrmester was 9th in the 55 dash (7.86), just missing finals. She was 11th in the 400 (1:06.1) and 13th in the 200 (28.54).
