Arrests Made in Cab Driver Murder Case

Christian County State's Attorney Tom Finks has announced arrests and formal charges in the shooting death of Steven L. Brummett in Christian County. “In the early morning hours of July 25, 2009, Steven L. Brummett, 30, of Loami was killed by a single gunshot to the head in rural Christian County near Pawnee. Three suspects are now in custody in St. Louis. Brandon L. Allsup, 26, Springfield, and Donnella D. Hamilton, 26, Springfield, have been charged in Christian County Circuit Court with First Degree Murder and Ashley N. Davis, 20, Springfield, is charged with concealment of a homicide. Bond has been set at $1,000,000 for Allsup and Hamilton and $100,000 for Davis. It appears that one of the suspects was familiar with the rural location where the shooting occurred and directed the victim to take them to that uninhabited location,” said Finks.

“We will seek to have these defendants extradited from St. Louis as soon as possible. The Illinois State Police and the Christian County Sheriff's Department are in charge of the investigation and are being assisted by the Taylorville Police Department, Springfield Police Department, Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office, Pawnee Police Department, St. Louis Police Department and U.S. Marshall's Office. This is and has been a tremendous collaborative effort by many agencies and I commend them all”, said Finks. The investigation is ongoing.
