Pana handled Vandalia the first time they met, winning by 18 points. This time, Pana buried them by 30 points, 65-33.
The Lady Panthers posted double-digit runs in the first two quarters and led by 22 points at the break, Pana dialed it back in the third quarter, then the Pana reserves came in the game, smelled blood, and went after the Vandals like vultures on a wounded animal posting another double-digit run.
"We played pretty well on both ends of the floor," said Pana coach JR Boudouris. "We did have a little bit of foul trouble, as all of our starting guards ended the first half with two fouls; however, we got some great minutes and contributions from our guards off the bench. It was nice to see us play well and put away a young, improving Vandalia team (no seniors). We need to stay sharp heading into Monday night’s game at Hillsboro with first place in the SCC East on the line."
An even dozen Panthers got on the board in the blowout, led by only one player in double figures, Katie Lees with 13 points. The first time the teams played, Lees was still getting into the swing of things. She steadily improved as a scorer in the paint, many times being the team-high scorer. She was the standard bearer in this game, as well, scoring all 13 of her points in the first half. The other 52 points was scattered among the other eleven players, with Jessica Etter leading the way with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Pana out-rebounded Vandalia 28 to 24, yet pana scored 12 points off offensive rebounds, compared to just two points for Vandalia from offensive boards. Pana has a assist to turnover ratio of 1.5:1 (17 to 12) and a steal to turnover ratio of 1.3:1 (16 to 12). Their assist/steal ratio to turnovers was alost 3:1 (33 to 12).
