CHBC Loses To Annawan Finishes 4th In State

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — After dropping their respective state semis CHBC and Annawan met in the 3rd place game on Saturday at Redbird Arena.

Annawan was a better match-up for CHBC than outside shooting Mt. Pulaski. CHBC is led by 1st Team All-State senior center, 6-1 Micah Jones and Annawan is led by 1st Team All-State junior, 6-0 center Celina VanHyfte. Senior point guard Ava Paruleski is the second scorer for CHBC and freshman shooting forward Morgan VanHyfte is the second best weapon for Annawan.  

The 1st half was a lot of back and forth, ties and lead changes ending in a 22-22 tie. Micah Jones was tripped and went down hard on a fast break. She ws O.K.

She was fouled again on fast break with time running out in the half and went sprawling out of bounds. She made the second of two free throws with no time remaining to tie the game, 22-22.

Autumn Riley got CHBC on board first on a baseline drive. There were ties at 2-2, 4-4, 6-6, then CHBC went up 10-6 on two jones scores.

Annawan went up 13-10. They were pressing bu Paruleski beat it and scored for 14-13 lead. Annawan had another 3. The game went back and forth from there with 1-point lead changes until the end of the half.

Jones le all scorers with 9 points and 10 reboundswith 3 blocked shots. Celina VanHyfte had eight points with 3 rebounds and 4 blocks. Paruleski had seven points and Jackson had six for Annawan.

CHBC out-rebounded Annawan 22 to 12.

Jones went down again in the 2nd half and was out for a while. Annawan went from down 32-31 to up 37-32. They never trailed again and shot free throws at the end to pull away, 47-37 for the win

CHBC (26-7) got 4th in the state.
