Suspect at Large After Car Chase Monday

A suspect remains at large following a police chase Monday evening north of Shelbyville and ending in Westervelt.

According to Shelbyville Police Chief David Tallman, the suspect stole a vehicle from a Shelbyville residence at approximately 9:25 p.m. City police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect led them on a 15-mile high speed chase north on Route 128 to the Findlay-Assumption blacktop, through corn and bean fields, and back to the Westervelt grain elevator where he abandoned the car and fled on foot into a nearby cornfield.

Canine units from Christian County and the Taylorville Police Department were called in to assist. The State Police were also called in to assist with their infrared cameras. Windsor Police and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.

The vehicle is in police custody for processing.
