A 15-year-old male juvenile was arrested Tuesday by Shelbyville Police after leading the police on a chase Monday evening north of Shelbyville and ending in Westervelt.
According to Shelbyville Police Chief David Tallman, the juvenile allegedly stole a vehicle from a Shelbyville residence at approximately 9:25 p.m. City police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the juvenile led them on a 15-mile high speed chase north on Route 128 to the Findlay-Assumption blacktop, through corn and bean fields, and back to the Westervelt grain elevator where he abandoned the car and fled on foot into a nearby cornfield.
Canine units from Christian County and the Taylorville Police Department were called in to assist. The State Police were also called in to assist with their infrared cameras. Windsor Police and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department also assisted. The search for the driver was abandoned Monday night.
The vehicle was taken by police for processing and leads were followed up on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest.
According to Shelby County State’s Attorney Allan Lolie, the juvenile faces charges of theft over $300, a Class 3 felony, and aggravated fleeing and alluding, a Class 4 felony, as well as several traffic citations. He appeared in court Wednesday morning.
