SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Downtown Assumption will be busy with activities and shows Thursday through Saturday, June 28-30.
Assumption Fest will host three days of family friendly events including a midway carnival by Fountain Amusements, parade, contests, and music.
“We’ve been trying to grow and expand each year,” said committee chairman Angela Ohl-Marsters. “There is something for all ages and interests.”
The Festival theme, “In Days Gone By,” celebrates the heritage of the area while incorporating the present.
Old-time tractors, needlework and crafts, and a variety of collections will be displayed throughout the event. Rick Sullivan’s “Little Red Wagon” car will roll into town on Thursday evening.
“He has take a Red Rider wagon and transformed it into a car,” Ohl-Marsters said.
The Main Stage will be full of entertainment throughout the three days such as royalty contests, pet show, Dance Station, baby show, magician, hypnosis, and country/rock duo Cook and Belle.
The beer tent will feature music from The Shake (Friday), Carbon Copy & Guest, and Super Mario Speedwagon (Saturday)
There is no admission charge for the shows.
Saturday’s events include the parade at 11 a.m.
“We’ve got a lot of floats coming to the parade as well as Shriners groups. The parade usually lasts about an hour,” said Ohl-Marsters. “We have a lot of support from other area towns, such as Shelbyville, Taylorville, and Edinburg.”
Grand marshals for the parade is the Central A&M 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team.
New to the Festival this year are the Mr. Assumption Fest Leg Contest following the Royalty contests Thursday evening, the dog demonstration from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and the All About Ag booth sponsored by area FFA groups open on Saturday.
In addition there will be a large flea market and a bigger expanded area for kids.
“We encourage Shelby County people to come out to the Fest,” Ohl-Marsters said.
