SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Alexis Rosine of Sullivan asked her grandmother why children in a St. Jude commercial had no hair.
Her grandmother explained that those children had cancer and because of the chemo and radiation therapy to kill the cancer cells, they lose their hair. She was also told that there were organizations that make wigs from donated real hair that the children can wear to help them feel better.
Ten-year-old Alexis, who already had long readdish-blonde hair, decided that she would like to keep growing her hair to donate to them.
Alexis is also a Green Bay Packer fan (much to her Chicago Bears fan grandmother’s dismay) and learned that Green Bay linebacker A.J. Hawk and his wife established “Hawks Locks for Kids”, an organization to benefit Wigs for Kids.
“I told Alexis I would help her send her hair to Hawks Locks for Kids when the time came to cut it,” said Grandma Linda Dilley. “I told her even though A.J. Hawk is a Packers player and we are rival football teams, doesn’t mean we can’t come together for a good cause that helps someone in their time of need.”
On December 15, the day before the Bear-Packer game, Alexis and her grandmother went to Hair M.D. to cut the four 12-inch lengths for donation.
Alexis is the daughter of Aaron Rosine of Mattoon and Nina Harris of Sullivan.
