Ram Fresh-Soph Sliced, Diced By Cowden-Herrick
Shelbyville fresh-soph boys basketball played the nightcap on Shelbyville girls basketball Senior Night against Cowden-Herrick and the visiting Hornets put it into passing gear in the second quarter and almost lapped the Rams, 47-31.
Shelbyville held on to a 1-point lead after the first period, as Darin Breeden brought the ball and then drove down the lane and scooped in a lay-up. In the second frame, Derrick Knearm hit a jumper for Cowden-Herrick, then Zack England knocked down a trey and Shelby went up 15-13. Shane Mitchell stole the ball and scored to tie the game at 15-15.
Connor Biehler hit a base line turn-around jumper, but the Hornets answered right back. Luke Moore drove for two more Hornet points and a lead they would not reliquish, 19-17. Tyson Morgason, who led C-H with a game-high 14 points, scored for a 21-17 lead. Two more scores before half, gave the Hornets a 6-point lead at break, 25-19.
The third was all Hornets, as they went on a 12-1 run. The only Ram score was 1-of-2 free throws from Neil Yockey. Meanwhile, Morgason played quicker to the hole and scored four times to lead the run. Shelby got going in the fourth, though too late. Yockey scored three times, Tucker Schwengel scored twice, and Zack Keown got board making 1-of-2 free throws. Seth Barns led C-H late with two scores in their final ten points.
