Windsor Beats 2nd OVC Foe In A Row
Floyd Boys, Windsor Big Men Still Big Problem
After taking advantage of poor shooting by Shelbyville on Tuesday in Shelbyville and knocking off the Rams, the up-start Windsor Blue Devils knocked off another Okaw Valley Conference team, Sullivan, on Friday, 59-50.
Once again, the Devils worked their way out to a huge lead to start the fourth quarter and then coasted home. Like at Shelbyville, when the Devils got a lead, they just kept building on it. They led by 3 after one, 12-9, and built to a double-digit lead by the break, 30-19. The third quarter was a killer as the Devils went on a 14-5 run and upped their lead to 20 points, 44-24.
Windsor then cruised through the fourth, allowing the Redskins to make their final deficit more palatable, just nine points, in a game that was not that close. The 'Skins scored just 9, 10, and 5 points in the first three quarters. They ran up and down the floor in the fourth for 26 points and cut the lead in half, but still couldn't beat Windsor.
Zach Weber was huge in this game. He continues to grow in confidence in the low post and become a factor that opposing teams must deal with. Weber finally got a double-double after flirting with it the first two games. He had a game-high 17 points and joined Torey leasher in leading the Devils with ten boards. Leasher had a near double-double with nine points and ten boards. That got the devils 26 of their 59 points out of the post and 20 of their 40 rebounds from their two post players.
The Floyd boys scored in double figures again, Kyle going for 13 and Ryne for 12. Ryne had two treys (after 5 on Tuesday) and Kyle had one. Free throws were not a big factor for the devils although they did shoot 14-of-24. Weber got to the line and made 5-of-9 and Leasher 3-of-4.
Cat-quick guard Seth Bowman led Sullivan with16 points, Righter had 13 and Frerichs 11. But even with padding the score late, the'Skins were a double figure scorer short.
Windsor (2-1) has a quick turnaround traveling to Arthur tonight to face an LOVC team. They will be up against it on Tuesday at home facing NTC juggernaut Altamont.
