SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville schools will receive a large collection of school supplies thanks to the efforts of the community and businesses.
Edwards Jones Investments has been the collection point for the donations.
“But it is the people of the community who did this,” said Tad Mayhall of the Shelbyville office of Edward Jones.
“Kids are showing up to school without supplies and this is a great way to help. There’s no sense in the kids suffering,” Mayhall said.
The items will be given to the school and can be accessed only by teachers for students in need of certain supplies, thus keeping the confidentiality factor in place.
“We really appreciate the donations,” said Main Street School principal Denise Bence. “The most exciting thing for kids is a new backpack and new supplies.”
Donations may still be made through September 1.
“But if people feel compelled to do so, they can donate all year,” Mayhall said.
