Cowden Woman Injured in 2-Vehicle Accident Wednesday


A Cowden woman was critically injured as the result of a two-vehicle accident Wednesday evening south of Cowden.

Rachael A. Evans, 17, was taken from the scene by Shelby Ambulance to Shelby Memorial Hospital where she was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana where she is still listed in critical condition Thursday morning.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s report, the accident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Route 128, 1/2 mile south of Cowden.

Evans was backing out of a driveway onto Route 128 in her 1999 Dodge van. Evans stated that the van died and she could not get it started. A second vehicle driven by Dale L. Randall, 51, of Beecher City, was northbound on the highway struck the van in the driver’s door.

Randall was not injured in the accident. He was arrested for no valid driver’s license and taken to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department where he bonded out.

Evans was also cited for no insurance.
