After two wins on Saturday and Monday in this jam-packed week, the Panthers made a late comeback to force OT on Tuesday, only to lose to the Hillsboro, 60-57.
“We came out very flat offensively to start the game,” Coach Boudouris said. “We took good care of the basketball (only 7 first half TO) but didn’t make any shots and weren’t getting quality post touches either. I thought our defensive intensity was very good, particularly in the second half, when we forced Hillsboro into a lot of miscues with our pressure. Give them credit, they hit some clutch shots from the perimeter with the game on the line in the fourth quarter and overtime.”
Pana trailed 6-0 to start the game and did not lead until, 51-50, on a Grace Holthaus free throw opened the scoring in overtime. Hillsboro lead by as many as 10 points in the second half. Pana tied the game on an Allison Allen basket with 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation.
Pana had two 3-point leads in OT, 53-50, and, 55-52. But, back-to-back critical turnovers by Pana and a Paige Cullison 3-point basket, sandwiched in-between, tied the game at 55-55. It was Hillsboro’s only field goal in OT. However, they were 7-for-7 from line in OT.
Pana (13-8) play Thursday at Greenville.
