SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
December 5, 2012 - Late this afternoon John L. Cunningham, 41, and his wife, Janet S. Cunningham, 43, were taken into custody without incident by Kentucky State Police and U.S. Marshals near Madisonville, Kentucky.
After an extensive manhunt began late Monday night leading police to locations in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, the couple was found sleeping in a stolen pickup truck at a truck stop near Madisonville.
The Cunninghams fled southern Illinois Monday night after a male victim was shot during an incident in Johnson County. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.
The Cunninghams, both convicted felons, are persons of interest in the shooting and are being held on Johnson County charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapon by a felon.
Additional charges are anticipated.
The public is reminded that information contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
