SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Bringing with him experience as a public defender, state’s attorney, and in private practice, Gregory Grigsby has been chosen Shelby County Assistant State’s Attorney.
Grigsby replaces Deborah Riley who served with former State’s Attorney Alan Lolie. He began his work in the office on August 2.
“Greg was my top choice from the get go,” said Shelby County State’s Attorney Gina Vonderheide. “I considered two or three other attorneys. Greg and I came to terms and we’re thrilled to have him.”
“And I’m thrilled to be here,” Grigsby answered.
Grigsby graduated law school from St. Mary’s in Texas in 1977 and worked in private practice in San Antonio from 1977-1984. He is also a member of the Capital Litigation Trial Bar.
Born and raised in Taylorville, Grigsby returned to Taylorville in 1984 following the death of his father.
“I wanted to raise my kids in a small town as opposed to a big city,” he said.
Grigsby served as chief public defender in Christian County from 1984-1987 and as Christian County State’s Attorney from 1987-1996.
“I loved every minute of it,” he said of his time as State’s Attorney. “I like prosecuting.”
Grigsby has had experience with a number of different criminal and civil cases, including prosecuting six murder trials. He has defended many cases in Shelby County prior to his new position.
“I know a lot of the attorneys here, so I feel comfortable here,” Grigsby said.
“Greg brings lots of experience to the office,” said Vonderheide. “I’m happy to have him here.”
