Betty Jane Russell, 91, of Shelbyville, Illinois died at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday (November 14, 2012) in the Shelbyville Rehabilitation & Health Care after a lengthy illness.

A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville Rehabilitation & Health Care or the donor's choice.

Betty was born October 9, 1921, in Pana, Illinois, the daughter of Clark and Alice Bryson Vanderpool. She was employed at Sears Roebuck for 28 years. She enjoyed going to garage sales and thrift stores and was an avid knitter. One year she knitted over 100 stocking hats for Christmas and donated them to DOVE.

Betty married Nelson Russell on June 25, 1939 in St. Charles, MO., and they spent their entire life in Shelbyville.

Surviving are her children, John H. (Donna) Russell of Shelbyville, and Karen Clausen of Assumption; Grandchildren, David (Kim) Russell of Shelbyville; Chris (Terry) Clausen of Orlando, FL; Darin (Amy) Russell of Shelbyville; and Lori (Craig) Guebert of Moweaqua. Eight great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Morgan, Carlie, Coalton, Connor, Lauren, Kyler and Drew. Brother-in-law, Jack Mason of Peoria, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Nelson in 2002; parents, brother, Dale Vanderpool, sisters, Maxine Hilyer and Joan Mason, and son-in-law, Charles Clausen in 2012.
