Robert J. Perkinton, 91, of Springfield, died at 4:45 pm, Friday, December 28, 2012 at his residence. He was born October 10, 1921 in Lincoln, NE to Joseph and Florence Jane Bellairs Perkinton. Robert married Mabel Rincker on July 2, 1950. His wife, one sister Doris Belair, and two brothers Clifford and LeRoy preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Rick) Claycomb and Kathy (Joe) Macklin both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Melinda Jo, Rebecca Lynn, Philip, James Johnathan and Mark Joseph; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert had previously resided in Petersburg. He graduated from Springfield High School and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked as a U.S. Postal Clerk and retired in 1984 after 19 years of service. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Springfield Barber Shop Chorus, American Legion Post #198, N.A.R.F.E and A.A.R.P.
Visitation: 9 - 11 a.m, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend James Hennig and Reverend Michael Koschmann officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery with Military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter.
