Bonnie J. Potter, 77, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 3:45 p.m.  Saturday, January 5, 2013 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating.  Visitation from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Shelby County 4-H Federation.

Bonnie was born on August 18, 1935 in Seminole, OK, the daughter of Curtis Carl and Mary Jeraldine Monjar Barbee.  She grew up in White County, IL and was a graduate of Lockyear Business College in Evansville, IN.  Bonnie married Chester Ray Potter on March 3, 1958.  She worked for the University of Illinois Extension Service in Shelby County, IL for over 30 years, before her retirement.  Bonnie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Red Hat Society, Garden Club and Home Extension all in Shelbyville.  She was a 4-H leader for many years and was actively involved in her community. Bonnie was very creative and artsy.  She was a member of the Shelby County Art Show Committee and was also instrumental in the original concept of the life-size painted figures that dot the Shelbyville landscape.  Bonnie also enjoyed baking for the people in her life.  She would do anything for anyone.  She was dearly loved by her family, neighborhood kids and many friends.  

She is survived by her daughters, Kay Garbaciak of Granger, IN, Daphne Robl and husband Dan of Oshkosh, WI and Nancy Puckett and husband Norman of Carmi, IL; son, Curtis Simmons and wife Julie of Albion, IL; sisters, Bernice Kamm and husband Dick of Lebanon, IL and Marinell Trusty of Mt. Carmel, IL; and seven grandchildren, Dustin, Mark and Stephanie Garbaciak, Patrick, Christopher and Alex Puckett and Jon Risley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Chester Potter on December 26, 2004.
