James Beverley Hudson, 83, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 8:56 pm, Friday, November 16, 2012, at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born December 4, 1928, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Orval J. and Wanda Reynolds Hudson. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL. Jim married the love of his life, Helen Renner, on January 11, 1951, in Shelbyville. IL.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelby Memorial Home Health Visiting Nurses, or Shelby County Honor Guard.
James graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1947 and attended Eastern Illinois University. He was a summertime seaman on the great lakes in 1949, worked at Oliver Corporation from 1949-1951, was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1951-1953 in the Korean Conflict and Japan, was a machinist at Oliver Corporation from 1953-1970, and worked at Mueller Corporation, Decatur, IL, Feb 23, 1971, retiring on June 30, 1992.
He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. Hobbies included fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, garage sales and tinkering in his garage. He loved making steam engine parts on his metal lathe.
Survivors: wife, Helen; son, James Jr., Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Julie Ferguson, Shelbyville, IL; Denise (Neil) Montgomery, Hume, IL; Cara (Mark) Montgomery, Shelbyville, IL; and Linda (Gary) Banning, Shelbyville, IL; 13 grandchildren: JD Hudson, Logan Hudson; Tara Hudson, Joshua (Megan) Ferguson, Dana Ferguson; Amy Montgomery Roth, Wendy Montgomery Robinson, Ryan Montgomery; Scott Henne, Jr., Kristi Montgomery Alexander, Matt Montgomery; Jennifer Banning Houck and Eric Banning; 21 great-grandchildren: Kacy Alday, Janessa and Kendall McKittrick; Jordan Hudson, Kylie and Ethan Ferguson, Hayley, John and Katie Clark; Rylie, Torie and Cooper Montgomery; Trenton Roth; Austin, Brayden, Colton and Jillian Alexander, Hannah and Lucy Montgomery, Cole Banning and Cade Houck; sister, Mary Ellen Wheeler, Hilmar, CA; sisters-in-law: Hazel (Ralph) Riley, Cowden, IL; Eva Roberts and friend Gale Clay, Shelbyville, IL; Doreen Renner, Columbus, OH; brother-in-law: Raymond (Sheila) Renner, Stewardson, IL; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Leon Lowe, Shelbyville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Lou (Ray) Mills; brothers-in-law, Robert (Geraldine) Renner; William “Bill” Renner, Homer “Jr.” Renner; and great-grandson, Jack Ferguson.
