Lydia Jane Schouten

Assumption

Lydia Jane Schouten, 97, of Assumption, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, Windsor and Hillsboro, IL, died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 in Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana, Illinois.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Family and friends can meet at the funeral home Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. for a procession to the cemetery. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana, IL or the First United Methodist Church of Assumption, IL.

Mrs. Schouten was born on July 27, 1912, in Windsor, IL, the daughter of John W. and Belle Shuck Morris. She graduated from Windsor High School in the Class of 1930. Lydia was a Nurse’s Aid at Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville. She had 85 years of combined membership in the First United Methodist Churches of Windsor, Shelbyville, Hillsboro and Assumption, IL. She married James Frederick Schouten on September 21, 1943 in Charleston, IL. He died on September 17, 1987.

Surviving are her sons, J. Fred Schouten II and wife Debra of Bourbonnais, IL and John C. Schouten and wife Beth of White Plains, MD; daughter, Christine Compton and husband Tom of Assumption, IL; eight grandchildren, Christopher Schouten and wife Aimee of Racine, WI, Kevin Schouten of Bourbonnais, IL, Kurt Compton and wife Tiffney of Witt, IL, Karl Compton of Assumption, IL, Kendra Compton of Ramsey, IL, Melissa Schouten of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennifer Cushing and husband Dan of Little Rock, AR and Nicholas Schouten of White Plains, MD; and eight great grandchildren, Christopher’s children, Nicholas and Jacob Schouten of Racine, WI, Kevin’s children, Hannah and Elliot Schouten of Bourbonnais, IL, Kurt’s children, Vanessa and Sierra Compton of Witt, IL, Kendra’s daughter, Melody Compton of Ramsey, IL and Jennifer’s daughter, McKenna Cushing of Little Rock, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James F. Schouten; and two sisters, Edna Morris and Eileen McKinney Fisher.
