Charles “Rex” Brewer, 82, of Shelbyville, died at 6:51 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Siebert officiating.  Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or the American Cancer Society.  

Mr. Brewer was born on December 17, 1929 in Pickaway Twp., Shelby Co., IL, the son of Virgil R. and Mabel Miller Brewer.  He graduated from Westervelt High School in the Class of 1947.  Rex was a farmer, Pickaway Twp. Road Commissioner and worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department for 22 years, retiring in 1991.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.  He married Joyce Danneberger on August 21, 1948 in Westervelt, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Connie Jones and husband Kenneth of Shelbyville, IL, Teresa Harper and husband Eric of Aiken, SC and Penny Arthur and husband Jerry of Sullivan, IL; brother, James Brewer and wife Shirley of Ramsey, IL; sisters, Mary Gould of Lacey, WA and Mildred Schneeberg of Hudson, FL; grandchildren, Jared Parker, Sarah Offenbacker, Adam Isley and wife Jessica and Evan Isley; and great grandson, Benjamin Isley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Josiah Brewer.
