SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Freddie Gallagher

Mode, IL

Freddie “Fred” Gallagher, 77, of Mode, IL, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

 Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 in First Christian Church, Cowden, IL with Rev. Tim Boyd officiating.  Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Monday in the church.  Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, Cowden, IL, Camp New Hope or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

 Fred was born on November 17, 1935 in Mode, IL, the son of Kenneth Worthington and Edna Mae Syfert Gallagher.  He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1953 and then served in the U. S. Marine Corps.  He married Joan Hood on December 28, 1958.  They lived in Carlsbad, CA before moving back to Mode.  Fred was a lifelong farmer and worked as a technician for the Soil Conservation Service in Shelby County until his retirement in 1997.  He also owned and operated Twin Oaks Sporting Clays in Mode for over twenty years.   Fred enjoyed hosting Hunter’s Safety Courses at Twin Oaks.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, Cowden, IL  and the Masons.  He was a Past President of the Stewardson-Strasburg School Board, serving on the board from 1969-1985. He served on the Volunteer Fire Department in Pasadena, CA and later in Mode.

 He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Steve Gallagher and wife Kendra and Jeff Gallagher and wife Denise all of Mode; and grandchildren, Cody and Brock Gallagher, Dustin and Haley Gallagher and Daniel Rieman.

 He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Gallagher; mother, Edna Gallagher Prosser; and step-father, Max Prosser.
