John Edward Howe, 80,of Argenta, died at 12:36 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2009, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, at the Calvert Funeral Home in Argenta with Joe Kitchens officiating. Casual attire is requested. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, the Veterans Administration, or Addus Healthcare, Decatur.
Mr. Howe was born April 16, 1929 in Kansas City, KS, son of Mark Manford and Jennie (Shipley) Howe. He married Doris Eileen Heinz on February 3, 1963, in Illiopolis. She passed away on May 28, 2005.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from A.E. Staley’s in Decatur after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Soy City Breakers C.B. Club and the R.E.A.C.T. Emergency Club and was known as the Argenta Wildcat.
He is survived by his children: Patricia A. McCoy of Walling, TN; Deborah Kay (James) McCoy-Goodbrake of Decatur, Deborah Diane Howe-Wheat of Shelbyville, Connie L. (Tim) Howe-Holmes of Argenta, Tammy R. (Troy) Howe-Kitchens of Argenta, Patricia M. (Kenny) Howe-Bryant of Shelbyville, Mark E. (Dawn) Howe of Maroa, John Wayne Stevens of Tower Hill; daughter-in-law Debra A Wheat-Howe of Mode; special cousin Joanne Hall of Peculiar, MO; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and his beloved dog Daisy Mae
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Edward Eugene “Gene” Howe and Kevin E. Howe, one great grandson, son-in-law Sherman Lake, two half-sisters Mary Reed and Nina Howe, several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank D.M.H., 4100 Nurses, staff and Dr. Muhammad Khan for their care and kindness given to their father. A special thanks to Addus Healthcare, especially to Michelle & Nell.
