Mitchell Wayne Thompson, 51, of Herrick, IL, passed away at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the Herrick Baptist Church, Herrick, IL with Brother Jay Huddleston officiating.  Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the church.  Cremation will follow the services.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to the family in care of the Herrick Community Bank or the Herrick First Responders.

 Mitch was born on June 10, 1961 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Gene Allan and Karen Rose Clark Thompson.  He attended Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL and graduated from their nursing program as a RN.  Mitch worked at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL and then transferred to Shelby Memorial Hospital where he became the Emergency Room Coordinator for several years.  He was an active member of the Herrick Baptist Church and also a member of the Herrick First Responders.

 Mitch is survived by his parents, Gene and Karen Thompson of Herrick; grandmother, Freda Black Clark of Herrick; first wife, Joanne Hagar Thompson of Pana; children, Wesley (Christine) Duncan of Altamont, Jennifer (Robert) Northup of Carmi, Lindsay (Billy) Collins of Herrick, Trevor Thompson of Herrick (friend, Brooke Petty), Rebecca (Jordan) Jones of Pana; siblings, Tonya (Dennis) Downs of Shelbyville, Todd Thompson of Herrick, Chad (Michelle) Thompson of Herrick and Tara (Bradley) Cox of Herrick; and a proud grandfather of Myra, Logan, Rayna, Alison, Liam, Harper and Rasheem.  Mitch is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and lots of friends.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Bunea Lape Thompson, Floyd Clark and Lucille Waters Christian.
