Betty Ruth Spannagel, 77, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012, surrounded by her family, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating.  Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday in the church.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL.  Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Strasburg, IL is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund or Strasburg Veterans Memorial.

 Betty was born on December 17, 1934 in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Arthur R. and Nellie King Heinz.  She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1952.  Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg and Liberty Unit #289 of the American Legion Auxiliary of Strasburg.  She married Glen Olen Spannagel, from Strasburg, IL, on December 26, 1954.

 She is survived by her husband, Glen; son, Steven Glen Spannagel and wife Dee of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Carol Sue Salazar and husband Troy of Shelbyville, IL; granddaughter, Andrea Spannagel and fiancé Gabriel Siehr of Charleston, IL; step-granddaughter, Tara Blank and husband Neil of Horicon, WI; step-grandson, Troy Lee Salazar of Horicon, WI; step-great grandson, Hayden Blank of Horicon, WI;  step-great granddaughter, Jailyn Blank of Horicon, WI; brother, Charles Heinz and wife Carolyn of Altamont, IL; sister, Connie Wirth and husband Wayne of Strasburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews from the surrounding area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nellie Heinz; and infant brother, Roy Arthur Heinz.
