L. Eugene (Gene) Boldt

L. Eugene (Gene) Boldt, 95, of Stewardson died at 9:21 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Visitation is Sunday, November 1, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at the church with burial in Stewardson Cemetery. Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson is in charge of arrangements

In lieu of plants or flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Stewardson Historical Museum, or donor's choice.

Gene was born on April 27, 1914, in rural Stewardson, the son of Leo and Oma Laue Boldt. After graduating from Stewardson High School, he worked for a year in the Chicago meat packing industry. He married Gail Eileen Shumard on October 12, 1940, in Warrenton, Missouri. They resided on the farm in rural Stewardson for duration of their married life.

Gene was an active member of the community, serving as secretary and treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the consolidation committee of Stewardson and Strasburg schools into District 5-A, president of Shelby County Farm Bureau for 10 years, secretary, treasurer, and president of Stewardson Lions Club, Zone Chairman of Lions Club, president and treasurer and one of the original organizers of the Stewardson Fire District, trustee and organizer member of the Stewardson Ambulance Service, president and charter member of the Stewardson Historical Museum, member organizer of the Stewardson Centennial and Quasqui-centennial, board member of Shelby-Moultrie FS, president and board member of Shelby Electric Cooperative for 33 years, and 7-year member of Soyland Power of Decatur.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gail; son, Ronald (Carolyn) Boldt of Stewardson; daughters, Carol (Ron) Lading of Effingham, and Connie Rosine of Strasburg (Special Friend, Ralph Hernandez). Also surviving are grandchildren, Paula, Jennifer and Heather Rosine; Stacey Bauer, Stephani Lively, Ashley and Cassie Boldt, Sonja Martin, Philip Lading, and Heidi Kelly. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
