SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Gaylord E. McNeese

Ashmore IL

 Gaylord E. McNeese, age 71 of Ashmore and formerly of Shelbyville, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. 

Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Ashmore Baptist Church in Ashmore, Illinois.  Memorial Services honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor David Colvin officiating.  It is requested that memorial gifts in his honor be made to Michael McNeese to assist with final expenses.  Gifts may be mailed to Michael McNeese, 5 Westfield Road, Ashmore, IL 61912.

 Gaylord was born April 17, 1941 in Shelby County, Illinois a son of the late Samuel and Minerva (Stremming) McNeese,  He married Shirley Bly and was later married to Sherry Hubbartt.  Surviving are his and Shirley’s son, Michael McNeese and wife Wendy of Ashmore; four grandchildren, Zac, Jake, Clayton and Sissy; a sister, Doris Robertson of Westervelt, Illinois; two brothers, Everett McNeese of Washington, Illinois and Gerald McNeese of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews; and Blaze, a mini dachshund who was truly his little buddy.  In addition to his parents, Gaylord was preceded by a sister, Lila McNeese and two nephews, Greg Robertson and Travis McNeese.

 Gaylord was affectionately known as “Ed” to his family and friends.  Ed was of the Lutheran Faith and was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dorans.  He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine and later worked in Shelbyville as a landscaper for Marion Litz.  Ed was also a member of the Shelby County VFW Post 4829.  Ed enjoyed gardening, yard work, and was known to be an excellent cook.  Ed never knew a stranger and always enjoyed being in the company of others.
