Vic was born January 22, 1932 in Tuscola, IL. He was a son of Clarence M. and Esther (Rahn) Stenger. He married Phyllis Joan “Jodie” Schultz on June 21, 1952. She passed away November 10, 2008.
Survivors include two sons, Doug (Mark) Stenger and his wife Susan of Simpsonville, SC and Jeff Stenger and his wife Sandy of Shelbyville, IL; 5 grandchildren Ashley, Matt, Kaylie, Meagan and Ryan; and one Great Grandchild, Jackson; one brother Boyd Stenger and his wife Barbara of Arthur, IL and one sister-in-law Joy Stenger of Tuscola, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers Dale and Darrell.
Vic was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he worked at USI for a short time before starting his own Real Estate Firm. He loved people and he loved traveling all over the east central Illinois area working for, and meeting with his clients and neighbors. Vic never met a stranger and was known for his gift of conversation. When he was not writing colorful ads for his listings, he was contemplating the topic of his next “Letter to the Editor” and his whole family can attest to the many people who were moved by his words. He served as Secretary for the Illinois Real Estate Examining Committee from 1970 to 1973 and by the time he officially retired, he had worked in Real Estate for 55 years.
Vic was also a consummate family man and enjoyed nothing better on those days off to spend time with his kids, and later on, his grandkids; whether that meant a Sunday afternoon sharing a good Bear game, a fishing trip to the Kaskaskia River or an autumn afternoon at Rockome Gardens. However, no one can deny the passion he had for his Purple Riders.
He was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church and a member of the Arcola American Legion and the Arcola Lions Club, and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of all those that were around him.
Memorials may be made to the Arcola United Methodist Church or the Arcola Lions Club.
