Russell Lewis “Bub” Armstrong, 78, of Beecher City, IL, passed away at 2:47 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010, in St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Russell was born Nov. 7, 1931 in Shelby County near Mode, IL the son of Robert and Faye Lewis Armstrong.

He married Mary Irvin on Nov. 9, 1953 in Fowler, IN

Russell was a member of Greenland Masonic Lodge # 665 of Beecher, City, IL and the United Auto Workers Union.  He was a former member of the V.F.W, and he loved to fish.

He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Decatur, IL after more than 25 years of employment.

He served in the United States National Guard and then was called to active duty in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife Mary; children: Doris Armstrong of Taylorville, IL, Carl Dean Armstrong of Taylorville, James Armstrong of Warrensburg, IL and Henry Armstrong  and wife Loretta of Taylorville; grandchildren: Suzy LeGrant and husband Jason, Russell Armstrong and wife Celeste, Katy Lambert and husband Jeff, Betty Armstrong, Dylan Lewis Armstrong, April Dawn Waters and Drew  Allen Cowgill; brothers and sisters: Howard Wayne Armstrong and wife Gerneda of Shelbyville, IL, Patricia Fay Bialeschki of Champaign, IL, Lucretia Maude Baldwin of Charleston, IL, Forest Dale Armstrong of Decatur, IL, Max Dean Armstrong of Shelbyville, Jessie Mae Polley and husband Eddie of Decatur, IL, Glenna Sue Taylor and husband Robert of Cowden, IL, Marian Lee Lorton and husband Brad of Riverton, IL and Nellie Eileen McElroy and husband Robert of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by a son Robert Lynn Armstrong, parents Robert and Faye, brothers: Howard”Dick” Armstrong, Bill Bert Armstrong and Leo Earl Armstrong; sisters: Betty June Armstrong and Alta Joan Fox.

A memorial service will be  held a later date.  Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.  Arrangements are entrusted to Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
