Ruth Evelyn Thomas, 90, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 8:34 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 in Gowin Parc in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg with Rev.  Steven Becker officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church.  Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with Auxiliary rites by Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Liberty Unit #289.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.  Memorial May be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg or Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Liberty Unit #289.  

Mrs. Thomas was born in Strasburg, IL, the daughter of Louis Albert and Clara Spannagel Reel.  She was valedictorian of her high school class, graduating from Strasburg High School in 1940.  She married Linel Thomas on June 12, 1942.  Ruth was a lifelong resident of Strasburg.   She worked for many years for the Stew-Stras Schools in their lunch program.  She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL and Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary Liberty Unit #289.   Ruth was very devoted to her family.  

Leaving to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara (Jack) Weeden of Shelbyville, Russell (Jo) Thomas of Effingham, Eric (Jane) Thomas of Mattoon, Bradley (Debby) Thomas  of Neoga and Marsha (John) Herrington of Shorewood; 15 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Stremming and Doris (Delbert) Stremming both of Strasburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Linel Thomas on March 10, 1989; grandson, David Thomas; and sisters, Grace Schmitt, Pearl Eyrse, Fern Kull and Joyce Kull.
