John Robert Moore, 91, of Shelbyville formerly of Westervelt passed away at 4:50 p.m. Saturday (November 17, 2012) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.

John Robert was born November 30, 1921 in Pickaway Township, Shelby County the oldest son of Homer E. and Ruth (Brewer) Moore.

He was a member of the South Second Street Church of Christ, Shelbyville, and attended Westervelt Schools. He farmed his entire life in the Westervelt and Findlay area with his parents until 1996 when he resided in the Shelbyville Manor.

John Robert was drafted September 1, 1942 and served in the 311th Infantry of the US Army. He was sent to Hawaii, from there went to Marshall Island and then to the Aleutian Islands and then returned to Hawaii. During this he received the Purple Heart and served 3 years and 3 months never leaving on furlough and returned home in 1945. Upon returning he was stricken with Polio.

John Robert is survived by one brother, Marvin (Joyce) Moore of Winchester, TN and two sisters, Mary (Harold) Smith of Shelbyville and Eloise (Richard) Lockwood of Moweaqua, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Wanda Gordon, Eileen Phegley and Beverly Morrison.

John Robert was a loving and caring man and will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville Manor activity fund.
