Howard Leon Adkins, 93, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. David Beerbower officiating.  Visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to Mt. Pleasant Church, Assumption, IL.

Mr. Adkins was born on May 8, 1919 in Montgomery County, IL, the son of Byron Leon “Jack” and Iva S. McCain Adkins.  He farmed in the Henton area until his retirement.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church, Assumption and Shelby County Farm Bureau.  He married Ethel “Toots” McGuar on April 28, 1941.  They were married for over 71 years.

He is survived by his wife, “Toots” Adkins; children, Judy Small (Wayne)  of Shelbyville, Linda Abell (David) of Pana, Janie Fox (Stuart) of Shelbyville, Jackie Lively of Taylorville and John Adkins (Cindy) of Chatham; sisters and brothers, Viola Duncan of Pana, Edith Moomey of Herrick, Ruby Moore of Auburn, George Adkins of Sandwich, Glen Adkins (Yvonne) of Aurora, Roy Adkins (Genevieve) of Ohlman, James Adkins of Pana, Kenneth Adkins of Sandwich, Betty Smith (James) of Oconee and John T. Adkins (Pauline) of Monroe, WI; sister-in-law, Hazel Adkins of Canby, MN; grandchildren, Ellen Trainor (Chuck), Aaron Small (Elizabeth), Adrienne Lauff, Ashley Hadowsky (Ely), Annie Reid (Jade), Abbie Ballard (Zac), Maggie Daniel (Kylie), Jared Lively, Jordan Lively, Judson Lively, Joel Lively, Derek Adkins and Stephanie  Adkins; step-grandchildren, Amanda Steward (John) and Annette Dinkins (Derek); and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brother, Lillian Markham, Charles Adkins and Rosa Scoughton; and grandchildren, Daniel and Douglas Fox.
