SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Rev. Marvin Louis Chalfant

Cowden



Rev. Marvin Louis Chalfant, 80, of Cowden, IL passed away at 11:41 p.m. Friday Dec. 7, 2012 in St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Rev. Chalfant was born September 9, 1932 in Knob Noster, MO the son of William H. and Myrtle Thurston Chalfant.

He married Norma Jean Tedrick on June 7, 1958 in Sterling, IL and she passed away July 23, 2011.  

Rev. Chalfant pastored for the Free Methodist Church of North America Gateway Conference from July of 1963 to May of 1995.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Greenville College in Greenville, IL in 1969 and then a Master Degree of Divinity in 1973 from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY.

Rev. Chalfant made many good memories while fishing and hunting with friends and family. He also, enjoyed building furniture, remodeling houses and making improvements to many buildings on Free Methodist Campgrounds in Illinois.

Surviving are children: Scott Allen (Jamie Lou) Chalfant of  Cowden, Dawn Marie Krohe of Vandalia, IL and Kevin Lane Chalfant of New Castle , IN; grandchildren: Lucas (Brooke) Arthur, Sonja ( Joshua)  Moffitt, Kristopher Krohe, Adrianne Chalfant and Benjamin Chalfant; great grandchildren: Evelyn Moffitt, Violet Moffitt, Joshua Moffitt, Drew Arthur, Piper Arthur and Salem Arthur; sister Thelma Chalfant of St. Charles, MO.

He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean, parents William H. and Myrtle Chalfant, five brothers, three sisters and grandchild Molly Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday December 12, 2012 in the Free Methodist Church of Cowden.  Pastor Steve Neville will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Church.  Burial will be in Mound Cemetery at Cowden.  Memorials may be made to the Gateway Free Methodist Church Conference.  On line condolences may be made to the Family at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com
