SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The #7 team in Class A, the Central A&M Lady Raiders, had to face a team they'd seen before in the conference. That made the job tough, but they prevailed anyway, 63-53.
The Raiders and the Cardinals got busy right from the opening tip. The Raiders held a 3-point lead after the 1st, 17-14, but Warrensburg kept coming and cut the Raider lead to just a point at the break, 31-30.
The Raiders pushed the ball again in the 3rd and Warrensburg blinked during an 18-12 run. The Raiders held a 7-point lead in crunch time, 49-42. They were able to stiff-arm the Cards down the stretch and make free throws to secure the win.
Warrensburg out-scored the Raiders from the floor. The Cards and the Raiders made the same number of buckets, but Warrensburg made three more triples and out-scored A&M, 47-46.
What won the game for A&M was their free throw shooting. A&M shot 17-of-21 from the line (81%), while Warrensburg shot 5-of-10 (50%), a 12-point advantage from the line and enough of an edge to give A&M the double-digit win.
Central A&M booked four double-digit scorers and Warrensburg three. Allie Heaton was scintillating, scoring a game-high 20 points. She scored seven times from the floor and buried all six of her free throws.
Genny Rose Stringer scored six times from the floor and was also perfect at the stripe (2-of-2) for 14 points. Sarah Bailey scored 11 points, including 3-of-3 at the line. Taylor Adcock was the 4th double-digit scorer with 10 points, making 4-of-6 foul shots.
