Lady Rams Pummel Pana

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Shelbyille's other college-bound ace, Abbie Watton took the hill on Saturday against Pana and pitched a 3-hitter over the 5-inning, 19-1 rout.

Shelby's #1 ace, Grace Moll shifted to shortstop and her catcher Cinnae Martin went to 2nd. Watton's battery-mate was Kayla Brachbill, who solidified her spot last year when Martin was out for the season. Watton and Brachbill were in control.

Watton struck out five, walked just one. She allowed just four base runners, with two more reaching on Ram errors. Pana got their only run on a 2-out double, followed by back-to-back singles. Watton then won a 3-2 battle with a KO to pull the plug on the Panthers only productive inning.

As for the Rams hit squad, they were relentless smacking 14 hits for the second game in a row. They put up a 4-run 1st, a 6-run rally in the 2nd, and another 4-run boost in the 3rd. Before Pana ever got on the board they were down 14-zip. When Pana did score their solo run in the bottom of the 3rd, the Rams matched it in the top of the 4th to go up 15-1. Shelby added another multiple-run rally in the top of the 5th and kicked the rest of the dirt in on the Panther grave.

Four Rams starters had multiple-hit games and all but one starter hit safely. Brandy Smith was 3-for-3 with a grand slam home run and 5 RBIs. Kayla Brachbill was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Madison Boone went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Martin was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Moll was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Rachel Fox was 1-for-3 with a 2-run triple, three runs, and three RBIs. Watton was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Courtney Williams was 1-for-1 with a run and Jensen Cloe was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

The fireworks started in the top of the 1st when, with one out, Martin and Boone singled and Fox drove them in with a triple and scored on a wild pitch, 3-0. Smith singled with two outs and Watton doubled her home, 4-0.

Lindsey Eigsti caught a line drive in right for the first Pana out, then Watton gave up a walk. Fox threw out a Panther, 3rd to 1st, then Watton rang up her first K.

Cloe walked to start the Ram 2nd and the next three Rams singled; Moll, Martin and Boone. Fox drove in a run on a ground out, 6-0. With one out, Brachbill was plunked with a pitch. Smith then turned on the first pitch and cleared the bases with her roundtripper, 10-0.

Fox threw out the first Pana batter in the 2nd, then Watton rang up the next two batters.

Cloe began the Ram 3rd with another walk, then stole 2nd. She went to 3rd on a wild pitch and, with one out, Martin brought her in on a ground out. Boone and Fox reached on consecutive errors with two outs. Brachbill's triple drove them in, 12-0. Smith singled Brachbill in, 14-0.

Martin and Brachbill threw out batters in the Pana 3rd, then Pana got a 2-out double and consecutive singles, 14-1. Watton KO'd her fourth victim and got out of the inning.

Courtney Williams came in to bat in the Ram 4th and singled. Cloe singled and then they put on a double steal. Moll drove in Williams on a ground out, 15-1.

Martin caught a pop up, then threw out the next batter. Moll threw out the third and the Rams retired Pana in order for the second time in four innings.

Free passes from Pana filled the bases in the top of the 5th, with Brachbill's double lighting the fuse. Fox was hit by a pitch and Brachbill doubled. Smith, Watton, and Williams walked. Moll walked and forced in the 19th Ram run.

An error a fielder's choice and an other error loaded the bases for Pana in the 5th. Watton rang up one batter and Moll threw out another on the base paths. Martin threw out the last batter to end the massacre.

Shelbyville is 2-0.
