SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville girls began the Okaw Valley Holiday Tournament with a thud, losing to Mt. Pulaski 58-21. But, they could take consolation that their next game in the tourney would be against a JV team.
Shelby’s leading scorer Lindsay Burton and a steady role player Lindsay Floyd were both held scoreless and that spelled despair for the Ram effort.
Olivia Williamson led Shelby with just seven points, followed by Madison Boone with six.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pulaski was marvelous, getting enough points in the 1st period to beat the inoffensive Rams. Mt. Pulaski opened the game with a 22-2 run. Williamson was the only Ram to get on the board.
The Rams picked up the pace in the 2nd, but Mt. Pulaski still had a 19-9 run, to lead by 30 at the break, 41-11. Williamson had a bucket and 1-of-2 free throws, Boone had a bucket, as did Bri Ruff and Courtney Schultz.
That was the high point of the game for the Rams.
Mt. Pulaski had an 18-5 run in the 3rd to go up by 43 points, 59-16.
Williamson had another bucket, while Boone had a bucket and made2-of-4 foul shots.
Mt. Pulaski phoned it in in the 4th. Despite going scoreless in the final frame, Mt. Pulaski’s lead only shrank to 39 points. Hennings scored twice in the 4th as the only Ram scores.
Shelbyville will play Okaw Valley JV on Thursday, December 27 at 9 a.m. Okaw JV lost to Teutopolis JV on Saturday, 45-15.
