SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
Shelbyville Moulton 7th grade earned their way to the title game of the Okaw Junior High Conference tourney on Thursday. However, they were up against a juggernaut #1 seeded Monticello, 52-23.
The game opened with a 12-2 run by Monticello. Turner Pullen was the only Ram to score. The 2nd period wasn't much better as Monty went on a 20-7 run. Pullen scored again and made a pair of free throws. Cade Watson converted a 3-point play. Shelby was down by 23 at the break, 32-9.
The 3rd period was more competitive. Monty got five solo scores from different players and the Rams two scores and two free throws to just fall behind by just three more points. Tylr Gottfriedt stuck a 3-pointer, Peyton Koonce scored and Watson made 2-of-4 at the line.
Shelby was still down by 26 to start the final frame, 42-16. The 4th went the way of the 3rd, with Shelby still unable to trim the deficit. Daythan Summers came up big, canning a triple and a deuce. Koonce added the other bucket.
Pullen led Shelby with six points, all in the 1st half, followed by Watson's five points, all in the 2nd and 3rd, and Summers 5-point 4th.
Monty was led by Stokowski with 13 points, followed by Dawon with nine, and Fisher and Dyson with eight each.
